Let yourself learn

It’s okay to be a beginner. It’s okay if you don’t know what you’re doing, and it’s okay if you think you’re not flexible or strong. Take the first step on your learning journey by exploring this page and reach out when you are ready.

You’ve got questions & we’ve got answers!

What if I’m not flexible?

Join the club! Although mainstream media would suggest otherwise, you do not have to be inherently flexible to practice Yoga. You may find that over time you develop more flexibility, as that can be one of the most recognizable benefits of the practice.

What if I don’t have great balance?

Balance waxes and wanes throughout our lives; some days it’s easier, other days it’s not. Just like flexibility, you may find that over time you find it easier to balance, but again it’s not inherently necessary to begin the practice of Yoga. You can use a wall, a chair, a yoga block, and your own fixed gaze to help you along the way.

What if I have some specific physical limitation that prohibits me from doing certain poses?

Once again, you’re not alone! There are lots of different ways to approach each Yoga pose. In the end, we are simply seeking a way to experience our bodies from a different perspective, and whether we do that in a way that looks similar to others or not, it truly doesn’t matter. There is no one particular way to practice each pose; its about finding your way into your pose, not someone else’s. Your teachers are here to help, so ask questions!

What if I confuse my lefts and my rights?

Not to be a broken record here, but um… you’re not alone. Even your teachers will mix up their lefts and rights while teaching you, so give yourself the same grace you would give to them — we all make mistakes.

What classes should I take?

We definitely recommend taking our Beginner classes to start. There you will get lots of repetition on the basics which will help you to establish a relationship with your body in space and time. That might sound silly, but so many of us are disconnected from our bodies for a multitude of reasons so repetition is important to begin to rebuild that relationship. That said, we get that sometimes you can only fit a class in at a certain time in the week or day, so if you can’t make it to a beginner class, your second best option is a Gentle class. Gentle will help you to establish an understanding of some of the basic posess as well as your body. Hatha 1 is another option, just make sure to embrace your inner beginner and be easy on yourself if things don’t quite make sense right from the get go. PLUS remember that you are most welcome to ASK QUESTIONS regardless of what class you are taking.
